Hand Peeled v. Machine Peeled

Almost all of our products are available in both styles, hand peeled and machine peeled.

As shown in this photo, both styles are very nice.


Machine Peeled - 

The post on the left is machine peeled.  As you may have guessed, a machine does the stripping of the bark.  You'll notice the more smooth, uniform surface of the wood.  Even the knots are smooth.


Hand Peeled - 

The post on the right is hand peeled.  We quite literally remove the bark by hand.  With this process, some of the dark material between the bark and the log will actually remain.  The knots also are simply cut off at random locations.  More of the character of the wood shows in this process.
